Maria C. Lara - Principal
I am honored and humbled to be the Instructional Leader at Garza Elementary.
This is my 22nd year with Brownsville ISD. My educational background consists of a Bachelor’s degree in Bilingual Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration. I started my career with BISD in 1999. My first 8 years were as an elementary teacher where I taught First through Third Grade. I also serviced Fourth and Fifth Grade students through tutorials and summer school. As a teacher I was privileged to serve in various leadership roles to provide support for our teachers and students. These experiences were beneficial when I transitioned into administration. I spent six years as an Assistant Principal at the High School Level and four years as the Dean of Instruction at the Middle School Level.
I aspire to establish a learning community of collaboration, which will include parents and the community. My goal is to establish a culture that is conducive to student and teacher growth and ensure all stakeholders take ownership in academic success with a vision of college and career readiness goals taking place.
As many of you know, my door is always open to you. I want to thank you for your support and collaboration throughout my years here at Garza Elementary. We look forward to having everyone back on campus soon to continue learning and growing together.
"I am a first generation graduate and English learner. Do not let the fear of not knowing how to attain your future goals stop you. We all have those fears, and we will guide you. You are not alone."
